It’s September, and if you’re a resident of EquipmentShare’s hometown of Columbia, Mo., then you know what that means: It’s time for Roots N’ Blues! The Roots N’ Blues Festival was founded in Columbia, Mo., in 2007 and continues to bring thousands of music-loving visitors to the local community each year. Showcasing a two-stage musical experience at Stephens Lake Park, the festival builds upon what Columbia’s unique culture has to offer.
We’re proud to be a first-time sponsor of the festival this year. It’s our chance to support and strengthen the arts around us which contributes to a growing and thriving community. More than 500 of our nearly 3,000 team members call Columbia home, and sponsoring Roots N’ Blues allows us to reward many of them with a weekend of music, fellowship and fun while doing our part to make sure Columbia remains a great place to live, work and play.
Back in 2014, our founders created EquipmentShare right here in "CoMo" at Columbia Startup Weekend. Since then, we've received a great deal of support from the community. Now, it's time for us to return the favor by supporting our local festival and all the participating businesses through our sponsorship because, after all, a vibrant and healthy community is also a growing community and our company is in the business of building.
The Roots N’ Blues Festival features 26 musical artists, ranging from local acts like The Burney Sisters to world-renowned headliners like Sheryl Crow and Brandi Carlile. Music happens to be an important part of the lives of our founders, the Schlacks family. Each member plays an instrument — from piano to trumpet to French horn — and music has been a personal passion for them throughout their lives.
“Unlike other activities, music unlocks a certain part of your brain and has a direct correlation to other enriching aspects such as math,” said Danielle Schlacks, member of the executive leadership team.
Music can be a building block for children as they tackle science and math in schools. As a tech company, we are supportive of overall STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) programs. According to the National Association of Music Education, research has shown playing music strengthens memory recall, requiring students to understand rules of logic and abstract thinking while improving their understanding of scientific theory and equations.
Our company is made up of logical problem-solvers, curious tinkerers and outside-the-box thinkers. Sponsoring experiences like the upcoming Root N’ Blues festival is one of the many reasons EquipmentShare is a great place to work.
