For the September Core Employee award winner, Matt Colburn is the hands-down choice. Matt’s coworkers commended him for his hard work every day, but they especially nominated him for the award after watching him spring to action to help with efforts after Hurricane Ida.
In early September 2021, Hurricane Ida hit the Gulf Coast and caused destruction and damage along the gulf coast. In the immediate aftermath and weeks following, Matt provided the Baton Rouge and Lake Charles branches with fleet and personnel management support. His teammates said Matt kept a positive attitude and a generous spirit, offering to help anyone in need throughout the disaster recovery efforts.
Matt is based in EquipmentShare’s District 7, covering Baton Rouge and Lake Charles, Louisiana, and Mobile, Alabama. His branches were at the center of Hurricane Ida’s devastation.
“Matt is the definition of what EquipmentShare stands for,” Casey Flanagan, region 7 service manager, said. “Matt is the type of man who will give you the shirt off his back. No matter the circumstances, he is going to do the right thing and stick to it. During the hurricane cleanup effort, Matt has gone above and beyond at every point and been instrumental in the efforts to help our communities and keep the branches going strong. I’m proud to have him on my team.”
As a district service manager, Matt spends his days coordinating mechanics and service personnel, scheduling repairs for customer and company-owned equipment. He is very knowledgeable in the field of service, his coworkers say, and he’s willing to take the time — whether that’s over the phone or by traveling to help other service techs in his region — to educate and support his colleagues.
“Matt is an indispensable member of the corporate service team,” Renae Winingear, corporate parts manager, said. “He’s hardworking, smart and friendly. Matt is always willing to jump in and help, especially when things get tough. He’s one of those people who, no matter the situation, I can hear him smiling on the other end of the phone.”
Team members like Matt put in the hard work every day and keep our values of drive, humility, intelligence and integrity at the top of their minds in all they do. However, it’s not every day they are faced with a natural disaster and continue to honor those values.
